Footballers 4 Life, in collaboration with LiveMoya, is implementing an HCT (HIV Counselling and Testing) campaign with the aim of increasing demand for New Start testing services, and initiating HIV positive people onto treatment. The campaign is called “I Know” and it encourages people to know their status. Collen Tlemo, Head F4L coach, “We tell people that they can live fuller, healthier lives by knowing their status – whether they are positive or negative. It is always important to know your status.”

I know

The I KNOW campaign logo: sending the message that there is pride and strength in knowing your status – this is how we are going to beat HIV.

We have distributed more than a billion condoms, performed more than a million HIV tests and circumcised more than 100 000 men. For more than two decades SFH has focused on the challenges of HIV prevention.For more than two decades SFH has focused on the challenges of HIV prevention.For more than two decades SFH has focused on the challenges of HIV prevention. Counselling is provided by New Start before and after the tests. The project currently runs in 3 municipalities: City of Johannesburg, Ethekwini and Ehlanzeni.

According to a report by Statistics SA, 11.2% of 10 South Africans are living with HIV. F4L is focused on the following high prevalence areas to stimulate demand for testing:

  • STI/TB Clinics;
  • Urban informal settlements;
  • Correctional Services;
  • Army Services;
  • Mining companies/mineworkers and
  • High risk areas with women in shelters, sex workers, truck stops,

Stigma always poses a threat to people knowing their status. F4L works hard on breaking down those stigma barriers and empowering individuals to know their status and take control of their lives.
